One of the highlights of our visit to Santa Fe was our tour of San Miguel Mission church. Yes, we do visit many mission churches in our travels. It is amazing to see that at the center of nearly every civilization is the church. San Miguel Mission Church is set on a corner in the busy down town section of Santa Fe. People on the street are bustling to yet another store front and miss the quiet elegance of this mission. We sat in the church courtyard and enjoyed the sunny weather. The blue sky was a perfect backdrop for our photo. Once inside the church, we approached the front alter. A prerecorded voice tape defined the internal structure, artwork, and ornate wooden carving which adorned the church. Again, we sat in silence taking in both the simply beauty of the church as well fellow tourists. When we emerged on the street once more, somehow shopping did not seem as important as before. Visiting these mission churches helps me to learn and understand about past cultures.
