The telea polyphemus moth, common to most of the North American continent and parts of Mexico, represents a finely tuned cycle of fertility reliant on specific flora.  As the cities and suburbs evolve into an ever-expanding mega-metropolis, fewer locations for laying eggs remain. Of course the extinction of the telea polyphemus is not imminent, but neither was the extinction of the mountain lion 300 years ago. The word telea means ‘the end’ and phemus means ‘to speak out'.
