Offertory: O Clap Your Hands              O.  Gibbons (1583-1625)
O Clap your hands together, all ye people,
    O sing unto God with the voice of melody.
For the Lord is high, and to be feared.
    He is the great King of all the earth.
He shall subdue the people under us
    and the nations under our feet.
He shall choose out an heritage for us,
    ev'n the worship of Jacob, whom he loved.
God is gone up with a merry noise
    and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.
O sing praises, sing praises unto our God.
O sing praises, sing praises unto our King
      for God is the King of all the earth .
Sing ye praises with understanding.
God reigneth over the heathen.
God sitteth upon his holy seat.
God, which is highly exalted

   And such a Life, as killeth death.
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength :
   Such a Light, as shows a feast :
   Such a Feast, as mends in length :
   Such a Strength, as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart :
   Such a Joy, as none can move :
   Such a Love, as none can part :
   Such a Heart, as joyes in love.

Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus.
Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery

But made himself of no reputation,
    and took upon himself the nature of a servant,
    and was made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance like a man,

Verbe,égal au Très-Haut, notre unique espèrance,
Jour éternel de la terre et des cieux;
De la paisible nuit nous rompons le silence,
Divin Sauveur, jette sur nous les yeux!
    Word, equal to the Most-High, our only hope,
    Eternal day of the earth and the heavens;
    We break the silence of the peaceful night.
    Divine Savior, cast Thine eyes upon us!

Répands sur nous le feu de ta grâce puissante,
Que tout l'enfer fuie au son de ta voix;
Dissipe le sommeil d'une âme languissante,
Qui la conduit à l'oubli de tes lois!
    Inbue us with the fire of Thy mighty Grace;
    May all Hell flee at the sound of Thy voice;
    Disperse the sleep of languishing souls

O Christ soit favorable à ce peuple fidèle
Pour te bénir maintenant rassemblé.
Reçois les chants qu'il offre à ta gloire immortelle,

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

Alleluia, song of sweetness, voice of joy that cannot die;

Alleluia soundest true Jerusalem and free;
    alleluia joyful mother, all thy children sing with thee;
     but by Babylon’s sad waters mourning exiles now are we.
Alleluia cannot always be our song while here below;
     alleluia our transgressions make us for a while forego;
     for the solemn time is coming when our tears for sin must flow.
Therefore in our hymns we pray Thee grant us blessed Trinity,
At the last to keep Thine Easter, in our home beyond the sky
     there to Thee forever singing alleluia joyfully.

Here, O my Lord, I see (1930)
                     P. Whitlock (1903-1946)
Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face;
   Here, faith can touch and handle things unseen;
   Here would I grasp with firmer hands Thy grace,
   And all my weariness upon Thee lean.
Here would I feed upon the Bread of God;
   Here drink with thee the Royal wine of Heav'n;
   Here would I lay aside each earthly load,
   And taste afresh the calm of sin forgiv'n.

  (arr 1987 by M. Wilson)
God who created us, Giver of every previous gift,
    The earth is your Child and all the heavens sing your glory.
    Gladly now we worship thee, sure that our lives will be
        guided by your spirit, filled with goodness, strength, and love.
God of our loneliness, breathe through the emptiness of our distress.
    Restore us to confidence, to trust and new assurance.
    From dispair, most loving friend, bring us to joy again!
    Guide us by your spirit, fill with goodness,
       heal with love, O Lord most high!
Creator, friend, your children defend, both now and evermore.

     "The Baptism of Christ"
ANTHEM(S)
Offertory:  This is my beloved: A Baptism Carol  (1999)         M. Wilson
This is my beloved, my beloved Son, who is pleasing in my sight,
. . . in Him I am well pleased.
When Jesus came to the Jordan, to be baptized by John,
    God's love surrounded those who gathered there.
    The Spirit of the Lord descended as a dove,
        and a voice came from heaven, saying: This is my beloved, . . . .
We bring our children to be baptized and mark them as Christ's own,
    with promises to guide them as they grow.
    Give each, O God, the gift of wonder and joy, as a lamb of your own calling.
This is my beloved child, beloved child who is precious in my sight,
. . . in whom I am well pleased.

(From Scripture and the BCP by Jane Foster Knox)

O beautiful star of Bethlehem, shining a far thro' shadows dim,
   Giving a light for those who long have gone;
   Guiding the wise men on their way, unto the place where Jesus lay,
   Beautiful star of Bethlehem shine on.
O beautiful star . . . shine upon us until the glory dawn;
   Give us thy light to light the way into the land of perfect day.
O beautiful star, the hope of light, guiding the pilgrim thro' the night.
O beautiful . . . rest for the redeemed, the good and blessed,
    yonder in glory when the crown is won;
    Jesus is now that Star divine, brighter He will shine. . . .
