About the Society
The Society for Mediaeval Languages and Linguistics was formed in
1998 to promote the linguistic study of languages known to
have been written or spoken during the period AD 450-1450, and to provide
a
forum for those with an interest in and working in this field. Membership
is and should be diverse, encompassing mediaevalists and linguists alike,
and is open to people
working on any linguistic aspect of mediaeval languages. We
sponsor sessions of papers and hold our business meeting every year in May
at the
International Congress on Medieval Studies held at Western Michigan
University,
Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.
Anyone working on the structure or use of any mediaeval
language is encouraged to join. Membership at present (and for at least
the near future) is free of charge and open to scholars of any
nationality or
affiliation. Those wishing to join may e-mail either
the President of the Society, Dr. Paul Johnston at johnstonp@wmich.edu or
its
Secretary and Webmaster, Dr. Edwin Duncan at eduncan@towson.edu. You will be placed on our
rolls,
be
invited to our session and meetings, and be eligible to stand for office
in our
society.
We hope to hear from you soon.
