CALL FOR PAPERS



The Society for Medieval Languages and Linguistics will sponsor four sessions at the 36th International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI, May 3-6, 2001:

  1. Studies in Insular Linguistics: In Memory of Ruth Lehmann
  2. Interference and Interlanguage in Medieval Texts
  3. Medieval Language and Linguistics I
  4. Medieval Languages and Linguistics II

Papers for the last two sessions may be on any topic with a primary linguistic focus on languages spoken and/or written between AD 450-1500.

Papers should be designed to be 20 minutes long; audiovisual equipment and assistance is available if indicated at the time of submission of the abstract.

Abstracts should adhere to the following rules, established by the Board of the Medieval Institute, the organizers of the Congress:

  1. Papers submitted will be essentially new and will not have been presented in public before.
  2. At top of the front page, include the following:
    Title of Paper
    Subject Area
    Name of author; institutional affiliation; complete mailing address; phone and FAX numbers; and e-mail address
    Confirmation of 20-minute reading time
  3. Abstracts must be typed, double-spaced, not more than 300 words in length, and must clearly indicate the paper's thesis, methodology, and conclusions.
  4. Two copies of the abstract must be submitted by the stipulated deadline date.

  5. An A-V/Computer Needs Form, obtainable by clicking here (or from the Medieval Institute, Western Michigan University, 1201 Oliver Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49008), must be attached to the back of the abstract, even if no A-V or computer is needed. Late A-V requests cannot be met. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is OCTOBER 1, 2000. This is a firm deadline; no paper received after that date can be considered for the 2001 Congress.
