GEORGE C. GEORGIOU PhD

 

 

George C. Georgiou, a Fulbright Scholar, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Economics at Towson University.  He is the recipient of the President’s Award for Distinguished Service to the University and an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Economic Association.  Dr. Georgiou holds a B.A. in Economics from Drew University and a MPh and a PhD in Economics from The George Washington University.

 

Dr. Georgiou is a member of the College of Business & Economics Management Committee, the University Council of Chairpersons, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Economic Studies Institute.  He has served on the Faculty Advisory Council of the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Faculty Council of the University System of Maryland.  Dr. Georgiou has also chaired the University Faculty Development Committee and the University Promotions and Tenure Committee in addition to serving on numerous other university-wide committees.  Dr. Georgiou presently serves on the State of Maryland’s Equal Pay Commission.

 

Dr. Georgiou has written widely in the areas of International Trade and Investment, Energy Economics, and the Economics of Education in such publications as: The World Economy, Journal of Economic Development, Energy Policy, Mediterranean Quarterly, Atlantic Economic Journal, Journal of International Economic Integration, Integracion Latinoamericana, International Advances in Economic Research, Journal of Business and Economic Studies, International Business & Economics Research Journal, and World Policy Journal.

 

 

Dr. Georgiou has presented papers at professional conferences such as: the American Economic Association, Western Economic Association, Eastern Economic Association, International Atlantic Economic Association, International Business Education & Technology Association, International Applied Business and Research Association, and the National Council on Economic Education. 

 

He has held teaching positions at: The George Washington University, The National Defense University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, University of Maryland University College, and Marymount University of Virginia.
