This course is a chronologic examination of Western art from the Prehistoric to Medieval period. Lectures emphasize the historical factors that influenced the artists' creation of sculpture, painting, architecture, and crafts. Topic areas include: the art of the ancient Near East, Egypt, Aegean, Greece, Rome; Early Christian, Jewish and Byzantine; Early Medieval, Romanesque, and Gothic.  The syllabus outlines course objectives and requirements.
