Description

The Directory provides brief descriptions of 237 curriculum transformation projects or activities from 1973 to the present. These projects have focused on changing courses in higher and secondary education to reflect the new scholarship on women that has emerged from women's studies, black studies, and ethnic studies.

Each description includes the name, address, phone number, and e-mail address, if available, of the current contact person. There is a brief description of the project, its outcome, the amount and sources of funding, and any publications of or about the project that provide fuller information.

The projects are listed in the text alphabetically by name of institution where they occurred or from which they were organized, and in appendices by date, state, kind of educational institution, and amount of funding.

The "Introduction" identifies consortial projects, including participating institutions, and describes the work of centers that have been active in curriculum transformation.

The Directory has four purposes:
  • to provide a record of the work in curriculum transformation on women in the U.S.
  • to provide models for others interested in doing curriculum transformation.
  • to allow faculty in specific disciplines to identify where course revision in regard to material on women has been taking place in their discipline.
  • to provide the information needed for contacting former project directors for more details.
