CIR provide information on production, shipping, inventories, consumption, and the number of firms manufacturing each product.

Industries at a Glance - U.S. Dept. of Labor
Industry at a Glance contains profiles of the nine industry divisions. Each profile is a collection of facts about the industry, and contains links to additional data. 

Yahoo's Research by Industry
Research data provided by Zacks Investment Research; individual companies are listed under industry groups with links to profiles, news, research, and SEC filings.

American Demographics
The publishers of this popular periodical maintain a searchable web site of past articles from this key marketing periodical. Access to this journal is available on or off campus through Lexis-Nexis, Business Source or Academic Search - EBSCO.

Consumer Expenditure  Survey
(Bureau of Labor) "...Provides information on the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers) characteristics."  (from site)

County Business Patterns 
Annually collected data from the Bureau of the Census that includes the number of business establishments, payroll, number of employees, and other data useful for gauging the level of competition present on a county level for prospective start-ups.

National Income and Products Accounts
 

As the condition of the economy is closely tied to market research, this resource by the Bureau of Economic Analysis should be consulted to gauge trends in personal income, employment, spending, savings, investment and other indicators of the state of the American economy.

U.S. Census Bureau Home Page  
Includes detailed data on age, sex, race, income, land area and population density, housing occupancy, computer ownership, and much more for counties, states, and the nation as a whole.

The handout Company research is specific to Cook Library's holdings. Look at Annual Reports to Shareholders  in Lexis/Nexis. Also, look at Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings.  You can find them in Lexis/Nexis or in the EDGAR database at the SEC.
