- To begin, click Start ®
Programs ® Microsoft FrontPage. When FrontPage opens, your
should see a screen similar to this:
- If you want to create HTML documents without creating a Web, you can start entering text
or inserting images on this page.
But if you want to create a Web site,
- From the menu, click File ® New ® Web. A New
dialog box displays with the One Page Web icon selected.
(You can add as many pages as you like to a one page Web.)
- Click the Specify the location of the new Web text box to highlight the default
location text. Type the location where you want the Web to reside. For
example, if you're creating a personal Web site, you might choose a location named c:\personalweb where personalweb is the folder [directory] name
of your Web.
- Click OK.
FrontPage creates a folder with the name you specified and two subfolders:
_private and images. You won't need _private.
FrontPage assumes that you will save your pictures in the images folder.
When you create a one page Web, FrontPage creates an empty file with the name
index.htm and titles it Home Page. To see these
folders and the home page file, click the Folders icon in the Views frame on the left side
of the screen.

You can now begin to customize the Web page.
- To edit the page, double click index.htm. This will take
you to Page view.
- You can change the page title from home page to something more
descriptive, such as Your Name Home Page. The page title is what displays in a browsers blue title bar.
To change the title, right mouse click anywhere on the page and choose Page Properties. The text in
the title box will be highlighted. Type the new title, and then
click OK.
- Using the instructions under the Table of Contents,
insert text, images, and other components into your home page.
- When you have finished, simply click the Save
tool. Remember it already has been given a name.
- To add other pages to your Web site, click the New Page
tool.
