  • build clear navigation (indexes, backs, forwards, etc...)
  • consider bandwidth
    simplicity
  • use margins
  • consistent fonts/pattern
  • "borrow" designs from other sites
  • use color
  • take advantage of hyper-text - provide links
  • use citations
  • consider intended audience
  • update frequently
  • dead end links
  • large files/images - break them up
  • gratuitous technology
  • forget screen size
  • browser compatibility
  • use frames unless necessary
  • violate copyright
  • have high contrast background or too many colors
  • provide poor/outdated links
