Mass Media and Society
This course a seminar on current issues and effects of mass communication. It focuses on new and ongoing issues involving mass media and its effects on society; understanding theories that apply to the relationships between mass media and society; and developing competency in taking a position on an issue involving the mass media and society.
Cyberspace and Communication
The course is designed to examine the theoretical and practical aspects of new media. It is also intended as an introduction to the social, cultural, technical, behavioral effects and implications of on-line communication, including systems for various forms of personal communication, information retrieval, transaction processing, monitoring, and other purposes.
Research Methods in Mass Communication
Graduate course designed to provide students with a foundation into social science research within media industries. As an introduction to quantitative and qualitative approaches to research tools, this course offers students an understanding of how to ask and answer valuable research questions, and how to design and conduct your own research agendas.
Theory and Practice of Public Relations and Organizational Communication
Graduate course designed to examine theories of communication. Numerous theories including: rhetorical, organizational, persuasion, interpersonal, public relations, agenda-setting, cultural studies, political economy, among others are examined. Students will be able to effectively discuss, write and synthesize theoretical models and apply them to real world situations.

- Mass Communication Systems
An overview of electronic technologies used for mass communication, emphasizing their historical development and interrelationships with economics, policy, and society. These include one-way media such as broadcast radio, television and cable, as well as newer technologies such as HDTV, wireless cable, and other multi-channel systems. The convergence of technologies is addressed in the treatment of two-way systems now being used for mass communication, including the Internet, World Wide Web, and other interactive and/or digital communication systems
- Telecommunications Program Analysis
This course is intended to introduce students to the theoretical perspectives and practical aspects of electronic media programming. It is designed to assist students in developing criteria for analyzing structure and content of program material and for analyzing the relationships of audiences, programs, and American telecommunications systems.
- Media Criticism
An examination of each of several critical theories and approaches to the criticism of telecommunications program content and practical experience in evaluating critical writing and in the writing of critical pieces. This course examines the role of the media in the construction of reality; the influence of media production in representations of race, class, and gender; ideological implications of media representations; and the relationships between culture, the media and society.
- Cyberspace and Society
The course is designed to examine the theoretical and practical aspects of new media. It is also focuses on the political, social, cultural, and behavioral effects of on-line communication and how these interact with society. A wide range of theoretical perspectives are explored in Cyberspace and Society.
