S-STEM: SuPporting Economically Disadvantaged
Undergraduates in Physics
(SPEeD-UP)
The primary goal of the SPEeD-UP program is to provide
the financial, structural, and emotional support
necessary to enable academically talented, but
financially needy students to achieve a bachelor’s
degree in Physics and either immediately enter the
workforce or to first pursue a graduate degree. This is
achieved by

Providing scholarships of up
to $5000 per year for undergraduate students
majoring in physics at Towson University.

Housing all participants as
freshman in the Science Scholars thematic
community.

Providing strong mentoring
support

Access to Career Center and
Counseling Center Services

Access to the Maryland Writing
Project
-
Access to affordable Student
Day Care services (if needed).
Application Deadlines - June 14, 2013
Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or minimum
total SAT score of 1500 with a minimum MATH score of 600.
Completion of AP courses is recommended, but not required. At
least one letter of recommendation is required along with a
completed application form.
